The following descriptions are very brief, since the two groups know of each other only very superficially.
Martha Wetherill has run the Rocking W Ranch
since the death of her husband Hank two years ago.
Clayton Wetherill is Hank and Martha's eldest son;
he is 25.
Luisa Wetherill is Clayton's wife; she is
24.
Richard Wetherill is
Hank and Martha's younger son; he is 21.
Dr. Frances/Francis Turner is the local medical
practitioner.
Samuel J. Dunn is a banker from nearby town of
Leupp. In his fifties, he is thought to be courting Martha Wetherill.
Polyesva ("butterflies
settling on flower") is the old
wise woman of the Bear Clan.
Tangave ("religious plan") is the only
child of Polyesva.
Siwingyawma ("corn
that has been rooted") is the eldest son of the kikmongwi ("father of
the people"--i.e., the village chief) of Oraibi.
Tuvengyamsi ("land beautiful with flowers")
is a young woman from the village of Walpi, some distance away.

The Hopi characters are NOT Plains Indians, they
are not attired for a ritual, and they've never heard the term "going on
the warpath." So, please: no face paint, warbonnets
or--god forbid--loincloths. Solid color shirts and a cloth belt with black pants or
calf-length skirts are a good starting point; you can add a simple vest or
jacket or a blanket across the shoulders. A bandana or narrow band tied
across the forehead is also optional.
