A general synopsis of the end of each run (as we remember it):
Friday, October 13th
After the expedition entered the Ankhesunamun's burial chamber, Margo started
the ritual to bring Sekhmet to the earth, but she was overpowered. Abdul
then told the mummy to "Kill everyone!" and mayhem ensued.
Mohammed (standing with a hammer in his hand, just for this sort of thing) knocked Abdul out;
Ariel was released; and the mummy was destroyed by breaking the cursing
bowl. At that point, the "secret exit" opened and everyone
except Margo and Abdul escaped. Abdul chose to remain, deciding that it
was now his fate to suffer the "living death" to become the new mummy
protecting Ankhesunamun throughout eternity.
Saturday, October 14th
Knowing that the mummy was Margo's ally, Husam and Margo had destroyed the
cursing bowl that only needed the mummy's name added to it, to protect the mummy
from destruction. When the
expedition entered Ankhesunamun's burial chamber, Margo tried to put the Scarab
of Life on Ariel's chest, but Abdul lunged across the bed and stopped her.
The mummy came into the room, and Margo ordered it to destroy the cursing bowl
(which Dunsworth and Alicia had just finished writing the curse on), thereby
ordering him to cause his own destruction (oops). The "secret exit" rumbled open, and everyone
escaped. Except for Abdul, who gathered several lanterns, and smashed
them together over the mummy of Ankhesunamun, immolating himself and the mummy
in order to prevent anyone from ever re-enacting the ritual to bring Sekhmet to
the earth again.
Friday, October 27th
Margo (not noticing that the mummy had given her a bowl with blood already in
it), killed Andrea in the maze to have blood to pour into the canopic jar for
the ritual. The expedition entered Ankhesunamun's burial chamber, and
Margo successfully completed the ritual. As the embodiment of Pestilence
and Punishment, she sent the mummy to kill Masterson and Mohammed in the maze,
and then started leisurely killing the other team members one by one. Smithers was
holding the cursing bowl when she was killed--which meant that when she fell,
the bowl broke, killing the mummy, and opening the "secret
exit." Margo then finished killing everyone, saving her faithful henchman, Husam,
for last.
Saturday, October 28th
Once the expedition entered Ankhesunamun's burial chamber, Margo performed
the ritual to bring Sekhmet back to the earth while Masterson and Abdul
weren't looking. She was successful, but she wasn't
really sure what to do with all that power, so she made Masterson and Abdul
dance like ballerinas. They found the Eye of Re and used it to destroy
both Margo and the mummy. Then they revived Ariel and escaped through the
"secret exit" which opened at the mummy's death.
Players' Comments
Tonya Angelus (Alicia, 10/14)
My favorite moment in the game was when I was transliterating the passage at
the entrance to the catacombs and the mummy scared the pants off me. After working in haunted houses and at Fright Fest for more than 6 years it takes a lot to actually scare me and he did it!
I also think that the look of surprise on the reporter's face when she had her hands too full to put everything down on Ariel and I had the opportunity to grab the Scarab was precious.
Drew Novick (Husam, 10/27)
"Paneling is stone, styrofoam is stone, wallboard or sheetrock is stone, fabric is stone." - Gail
"What about stone?" - Some heretofore unnamed member of the cast.
"Stone is stone." - Dig and Gail together
- During the pregame briefing
"Husam, get more light over there, more light ..... Husam, you fool, can't you see your crowding her with all those lanterns? Give her space..." - Mohammed, after Ariel Whately passing out upon the tomb opening.
The original appearance of the Mummy, after Whately had, excruciatingly slowly, tapped a hole in the wall. I'm afraid I expected the appearance, having heard about it from others. However, it was great watching the players expressions. And I was certainly surprised by the mummy later in the game..... :-)
Everyone running over to the wall full of hieroglyphs, and almost ignoring the rest of the room. How quickly you got everything set up to make it appear a "closed room." And wondering what you had done with all your furniture....
Entering the room with the sarcophagus, looking at it, going by, and then doing a double take realizing that Maggie was the
sarcophagus! I had become so accustomed to seeing stuff that I just originally passed it/her by as yet more great set dressing. :-) Of course, I made her pay later with my interpretation of Husam.
Rocks, and more rocks.
Seeing the mummy at the bottom of the stairs, and then realizing that no one else had seen it. Husam was really arguing with people who didn't believe him.
Upon seeing the model of the tomb, and the scarab in it. "Take it, it must be the Scarab of Life. Take it. TAKE IT! I would, but I can't hide it." Husam, in a whisper, to Margo, when they were the only two in the room.
"I'm looking for something to replace it with...." -Margo
"I know its in here somewhere" - Margo, about 90 seconds later when there were other people in the room.
The look of Curt's face when he realized that you actually intended for the players to hammer through some sheetrock. The look on Curt's face when he realized that you actually were going to have people (him, as it turned out) reach into the snake tank. The look on Curt's face (OK, the sound of his voice) when the way to the tank was completely shrouded in smoke.
The look on Dig's face when no one walked into the booby trap. However, the reaction when the ceiling started coming down in the room with the snake tank was great. That was likely my favorite moment, when people realized that five of us had to crawl out of there in a hurry.... :-)
Grabbing the amber ring, hiding it in a different room (because I couldn't hide it on myself, thanks for nothing :-) and then not being able to find it later. By the way, I hope you've since found it.
And, finally, having Margo kill everyone at the end seemed just fine to me. I would have liked being able to see the exit, and not making it. I mildly regret not getting to dramatically reveal my own allegiance at the end, but people's reactions afterwards were good.
Curt Martin (Masterson, 10/27)
1) The mummy bursting out of the wall at the beginning. (in-game scare #1)
2) The mummy growling at me as I was translating the hieroglyphs. (in-game
scare #2)
3) Dig tapping me on the shoulder from the "secret" entrance, to ask me an
out of character question after #2, and damn near giving me a heart attack.
(out-of-game scare #1!!!)
Vicki Martin (Margo, 10/27)
1) The mummy breaking out of the wall in the first scene.
2) Watching you push my husband's paladin button over and over and over.
3) The look on Drew's face just before I killed him.
4) The realization that I'd just completed the ritual to become all powerful and
nobody knew about it.
Karen Czaplicki (Smithers, 10/14)
It was really fun to have all the props and "atmosphere."
