The game started with all characters gathered
in the expedition's Pavilion, with the entrance to the tomb still
sealed. The expedition's financial backer, Branwell Whately, spoke a
few words about his belief that the tomb contained the mortal remains of
Princess Kha-Ra. Whately then took the chisel and ceremonially
opened the first hole in the doorway. |
At which point his daughter Ariel collapsed.
Dr. Bruger examined her, declaring that her condition was very
grave--she was undoubtedly suffering from brain fever and only had four hours to
live! Whately insisted that her only hope was for the expedition to go
into the tomb: legend said that this tomb contained the Scarab of Life, which
had the power to heal any illness!

Whately lifted a glass of port to the team's success, and drank
it, suddenly writhing in agony. Dr. Bruger examined his lifeless body,
noting a smell of bitter almond on his mouth.
The expedition members of course were in complete
confusion. Suddenly, they heard an eerie music, and a mummy burst through
the tomb doorway! It picked up Ariel and carried her off into the
tomb! |

The way now clear into the tomb, the team entered, finding
a mortuary temple with hieroglyphic inscriptions and a "false
door". |

A golden crook and a hieroglyphic note were found.
By careful translation, the secret to the sliding wall was discovered, and
the expedition could move into the next chamber... |
...which contained a mysterious statue, and a hallway filled
with heavy boulders. Laboriously, the boulders were moved. |
Behind the boulders was a golden flail. When the
crook and flail were put in the statue's hands, it moved!
Behind where the statue had stood, there was a secret
panel. Opening the panel revealed a stairway going down further into
the tomb.
After removing more boulders, the expedition found that
they had discovered the Treasure Room. There were many
artifacts, including papyri, ushabtis, and a complete set of canopic jars. There was also an unpleasant souvenir of the last visitor to
the tomb--a thief, who left a journal telling of the secrets of the tomb. |
On the other side of the stairway from the Treasure Room
was a solid wall with a low inscription. After more translation,
they found that they could hammer through that section of the wall! |
After going through a tunnel behind the opening, they
traveled through a labyrinth, avoiding a dangerous booby-trap. In the last room was the Scarab
of Life-- guarded by poisonous snakes. |
The labyrinth also contained the last piece to the puzzle which
opened the Burial Chamber of Ankhesunamun. Bloodied where the mummy
had collected blood for the ritual, Ariel lay chained and unconscious... |
